State Inflation Relief Checks 2022: Find Out If Your State Is Providing State Stimulus Checks

To assist American citizens through the pandemic, many state governments are offering and providing one-time tax rebates and stimulus grants. Due to the rising inflation of the economy, many governments have approved their own stimulus boosts in much smaller amounts (than previous federal checks) to taxpayers who qualify. Here’s a list of states offering inflation relief checks for 2022.

California: California is one of the few states that distributed two rounds of state stimulus checks during the pandemic that’s giving qualified taxpayers tax refunds of up to $1,050. Payments are expected to be sent out between October 2022 and January 2023.

California residents are able to qualify for the CA rebate if they’ve filed their 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021, and meet the adjusted gross income limits. Single taxpayers with annual incomes below $250,000 qualify for at least $200 and if you’ve filed as Head of Household and make less than $500,000 a year or filed jointly, you’re entitled to at least $200 as well.

Colorado: Colorado’s Cash Back tax rebate will be giving individual filers $750 and $1,500 for joint filers by the end of September if they were 18 or older on December 31, 2021, resided in Colorado for the entirety of 2021, and filed a state tax return during the 2021 income year. If Colorado taxpayers filed an extension and met the deadline of October 17 ill be receiving the refund by January 31, 2023. Most filers will receive their money in the form of a direct deposit.

Delaware: 2022 Delaware Relief Rebate Program was approved by John Carney back in April 2022 which includes a $300 stimulus check for individuals and $600 for joint filers. Delaware rebate checks have been sent out since May 2022.

Florida: Florida residents don’t need to apply for the one-time payment of $450 that’s being distributed by the end of September. The funding came from Florida’s $35.5 million share of the American Rescue Plan Act.

Georgia: Depending on your filing status, individuals are able to receive Georgia’s special one-time tax refund of $250 (single filers), $375 (Head of Household), or $500 (couples filing jointly). Payments are sent out via check or direct deposit in August 2022.

Hawaii: The Hawaii Department of Taxation began issuing a $300 refund in September 2022 for residents who earned under $100,000 in 2021 or couples filing jointly who earned under $200,000. Qualifying families are entitled to receive $1,200.

Idaho: At the beginning of the year, Gov. Brad Little signed a bill giving tax filers a one-time payment of $75. Idaho has announced that Idaho’s 2022 Special Session rebate will be providing $300 for single filers and $600 for joint filers. Payments will start being distributed during the month of September and early 2023.

Illinois: Eligible Illinois residents will be receiving an income tax rebate of $50 for single filers, $100 for joint filers, and for tax filers who have dependents will be receiving $100 for each dependent with a maximum of only 3 dependents ($300 cap).

Indiana: Single and joint tax filers for the tax year 2020 will receive one-time rebates of $125 and $250, respectively, regardless of income. Recently in August, the Indiana legislature passed the second round of rebates which added on $200 for single filers and another $400 for joint filers. In total, Indiana residents will be receiving $325 as a single filer through direct deposit or check and $650 for couples filing jointly through direct deposit or check.

Maine: Maine residents who filed as single are receiving $850 and couples filing jointly will be receiving $1,700. To receive one of the biggest state stimulus payments in the country, taxpayers must file Maine income taxes for 2021 by October 31 and learn less than $100k for single filers, under $150k for Head of Household, and below $200k for joint filers. Checks were sent out in June 2022 and will be distributed in waves until the end of the ear.

Massachusetts: In late October, the Massachusetts legislature will finalize the details and time frame of the rebate amount. Earlier this Spring, Massachusetts already sent $500 stimulus checks to low-income workers.

New Jersey: Taxpayers with at least dependent claimed on their 2020 income tax return will be receiving $500 in child tax credits. New Jersey’s Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR) Program is giving back $2 billion in property tax relief for New Jersey homeowners and renters. Homeowners who earn up to $150k will be given $1,500 for the relief check whereas those who earn between $150k – $250k will receive $1,000. Renters on the other hand who earn up to $150k will receive $450. Payments should be distributed well before May 2023 either by check or direct deposit.

New Mexico: New Mexico has provided a rebate of $250 for single filers and $500 for joint filers and Head of Household. The distribution for the second stimulus rebate check will be sent out in August with $500 for single filers and $1,000 for joint filers and Head of Household.

New York: New York provided two tax relief checks to their residents. Back in June, the homeowner property tax rebate averaged out to $1,050. In August, New York City Mayor Eric Adams introduced the second one-time property rebate of $150 to hundreds of thousands of low and middle-class homeowners.

Pennsylvania: An upcoming rebate is available to older and/or disabled taxpayers in Pennsylvania. Taxpayers who own their homes and are at least 65 years old or have a surviving spouse who is at least 50 years old are eligible. Adults 18 and older with a disability are also eligible. If you received the maximum $650 rebate in 2021, you’ll get $445 this time around.

South Carolina: A bill that was approved in South Carolina in June enables taxpayers to get back up to $800 in income tax. If you have already submitted your South Carolina 2021 income tax forms, you will automatically receive the income tax refund check. Rebates will be distributed by the state in November and December.

Virginia: Residents of Virginia who had a tax liability last year (or the amount of tax you owe less any credits) are eligible for a one-time payment of up to $250 for single filers and up to $500 for joint filers. The deadline to file and be eligible for a rebate is November 1. The state is disbursing rebates in the order that it receives returns. Refunds for those who submitted by July 1 should start to arrive in late October.
